Broken soap dispenser and wash cycle control

Our Smeg dishwasher mostly works, but has two faults we'd like fixed : 1. The soap powder dispenser no longer opens automatically at the right point in the wash cycle. We have to open it up and manually flick open the dispenser. We'd like it to be automatic again. 2. The wash cycle has 4 stages, marked on a circular control. If we set it to "1", it goes through that part of the cycle but doesn't move on to "2". We have to move it on manually, or just start on "2" and skip "1" completely. It would be good if the dishwasher could just move through all 4 stages automatically.
