Dishwasher won't turn on

The dishwasher has stopped working. Can't get the thing to turn on and have tried a different power source and removing the door for a look, all to no avail. It occasionally works, but it would be nice if it worked all the time! The model is a hiaer. Cheap and basic like my landlords, which is why I'm having to get it fixed myself.
