Rewire a 120v appliance to run on NZ electricity mains

Table lamp that is 120v 60Hz with a US plug purchased in the USA needs to safely run from NZ mains with a NZ plug. Currently the on/off switch is located midway on the power lead so the rewiring will need to include a similar switch on the new lead.
