Chest freezer cable wiring

My chest freezer cable was chewed by a rat quite close to the connection with the freezer (ie away from the plug). The wires are exposed and therefore I am not using it anymore. I hope to get a replacement cable put into place or to have the existing cable mended if cheaper and still safe and effective. If the work is too costly, I would be better off buying a new one.
