Washing machine won't start its cycle

3-year old Samsung washing machine. Power is connecting to machine, control panel lights are on, the lid lowers into position correctly, everything looks normal, when I press the start button it beeps and nothing else happens. I've tried adjusting the settings on the control panel, and turning the taps on and off, and nothing has worked.
