Install new insinkerator

We have an insinkerator which does not work. There are 2 options: 1. Someone can have a quick look and see why its not working. It makes a weird sound when it is turned on. 2. We purchase and install a new insinkerator. But let me explain how the wiring works. - There is a power plug in the cupboard where the insinkerator is located. - But the on/off switch on the power plug does not work from inside the cupboard. - There is a switch labelled insinkerator above the kitchen bench. This controls the power for the input in the cupboard. - Currently, we have the dishwasher plugged into the power input in the cupboard and the switch above the bench is always on. - The insinkerator is currently not plugged into the power. So we need to find a solution where the dishwasher and the insinkerator will both work.
