UHF aerial on barn home

I have a American barn home which currently has a satellite and no UHF aerial. I attempted to put an aerial up myself and I did get a signal but it was low strength cut in and out aerial was only placed on side of my building where satellite is. I think I may need a stronger aerial or more likely the aerial needs to be attached to the top of my roof (satellite/satellite mount is on the side of the building) My ladder isn't tall enough to reach the top. Good thing is there is already an existing cable and the mount may even be suitable, i still have the aerial to try also and will just need potentially just need to be placed higher. existing cable should be efficient.
