Crumbling plaster/ rotting wood by shower

We moved into our house a year ago and found the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor. We sealed with silicone and the leak looked to have stopped. However we have now taken back the vinyl floor, cut away part of the skirting board and found damp crumbling plaster. We pulled this away to find a small hole (approx. 30mmx30mm square) and behind this what looks like rotting wood. Pulling back the vinyl flooring also found a part of the floor (slightly away form the shower corner) was chip board and also damp. Concerned this may have been a longstanding issue that had been painted over prior to us moving in. Wanting to assess the damage, find the cause and fix.
