Area outside front door floods - might need a drain built?

Hi folks, as the title suggests, we have an area out front where water always pools when it rains. Now that I have put some garden edging in it's worse. I guess rain was draining away via the garden soil? But that also meant that in heavy rain the soil ends up on the path. Dumb! Anyway, please let me know what you reckon this might take to remedy. Thank you
