Job description

Floor and Wall Tiling
Whangarei

I am a bit late in organising a tiler, but need an experienced and pedantic professional, also needs to be a certified waterproofer, in about 6 weeks (end of Nov ish) to complete kitchen and bathroom renovation. Here is a rough outline of my plan, it’s a bit of a novel. For the kitchen I’m using the Krakle tile from Tonalite, 75 x 150 (7mm thick) colour verdone, to be laid in a 2x2 weave pattern as per picture attached. There is also an image of the actual tile in a different shade laid out. Area to be covered as per render from kitchen designer, approx. 3m2 (ever so slightly under by my calculations). That's the easy part, now for the bathroom! This is where I need help. Small bathroom, 4.2m2 approx. Removing existing shower cubicle, reinstating bath in original position and putting shower over bath. HOWEVER, there is a window about as close to the shower head as you can get, so right in the splash zone - new aluminium joinery already made by Elite Windows, frame has fixing tags and I am told that the tiles are actually supposed to go on top of cement board with appropriate waterproofing and into the channel where the wooden jamb would normally go… ? I have been told by two designers and a duty planner from the council that I won’t need consent but will still need to be professionally waterproofed, obviously. I want to minimise grout/seal lines and potential places where water could penetrate should seals fail at any point, and I also want to create the look of contrasting window liner and architrave in white to match the existing windows in the house. Have been looking at a solid surface product called Kymira, you can get sills, liners and architraves fabricated in any shape and size you want, so was thinking long single pieces so the only joins would be in the corners and around wall/tile and joinery/tile junctions. This stuff can be cut, sanded etc and glued on and sealed as you would a large piece of tile or stone for example. Not cheap though. Or use long white tile to achieve the same effect. The three sides of bath/shower enclosure will be tiled from floor to ceiling, I have got the “feature” wall tiles approx. 3.2m2 “Casablanca" in mint 58 x 242 --- To be laid in herringbone pattern as per my pretty picture, and will need to include the bath frame/box. Bath will have upstands on wall edges and set in tiled frame that runs wall to wall. But still stuck on what to do with the tiles for either end (covering another approx. 3.5m2 in total) they will be white which is as far as I have got! Laundry and bathroom vanity will just need small backsplash above bench top in same casablanca mint tile as bathroom, but maybe different shape/pattern. Something simple and easy! Area to be covered approx. 0.3m2 for each. I really have no idea what this would all cost! Cheers, Kathryn
