Kitchen Splash Back Tiling

We have a 3-meter length of kitchen bench we would like to have tiled. We have some recycled tiles to use, which we hope will work. There are a number of plugs etc and are still trying to figure out if we take the timber edging off and replace with a tile's. Looking for advice. The tiles we have for recycling are large and will need cutting to fit.
