Residential structural engineer

We are looking at removing an internal wall in our 1950s two bedroom rental unit in Burnside. It’s a single story, brick, timber framed unit with a light weight iron roof. The design idea around this plan is to create an open plan living/dining/kitchen area which will capture afternoon sun. We have been advised from our licensed builder that the wall is load-bearing and will require a 290x90 beam to be placed in the roof space. All work will be completed to code. It is our understanding that it is a very straight-forward job. But given we are also moving the kitchen, I’m putting together a MINOR building consent exemption application. If we push ahead with the removal of this internal wall, as part of this application I thought it prudent to have the support of an engineer to provide comment about the provision of a new beam, and if completed to code not impacting on the structural integrity of the building. I have three questions initially: 1. Is this minor residential work included in your services? Can you assist in providing the necessary documentation for the council application? We are drawing up floor plans for the change to the kitchen (which we can supply to you if required) – we have successfully applied for minor consents for this type of rearrangement before. But if your service requires masses of work i.e. detailed structural plans to be drawn up etc, we will probably rethink our reno plans. As a minor consent we want to keep it as simple and time efficient as possible. We are looking for someone that can help streamline the process not over-complicate it. 2. How much will you cost? Can you provide a quotation for your services? 3. I assume this will require an inspection. So thirdly, when would you be available to inspect and turn-around the documentation?
