10m x 1.8m high block retaining wall (indoors)
Job description
10m x 1.8m retaining wall to be built on an existing concrete and steel footing. Wall to be built of concrete and steel filled 190mm blocks, with two joints to irregular site concrete on either end, one inside corner, and one outside corner. Ardex shelterseal tanking to be installed behind the wall. Wall is sited completely indoors in a semi finished basement, however there are approximately 35 concrete stairs down from the carpark to the basement, with a minimum of 900mm of width. Carpark is flat access. Installation of the blocks will be a little tight behind an existing water tank. Installation of the tanking will require leaning over the wall and drawing it upwards as there is very little clearance to the rock face. Backfill to be done at completion. Consented plans exist. Construction to be inspected and approved by the engineer who made the plans.

Positives: I am overall happy with this wall. It's straight, plumb, and level. This was at a good price and I appreciate it--this is the most important aspect of this job. Negatives: The work could have been cleaner (butts all over my section? come on), and I had to argue about where concrete was to be mixed to minimise mess, and was forced to move aggregate myself. Communication and scheduling could have been better but I have experienced worse.
