Job description

Retaining Walls & Fences
Auckland

There are two boundary rock walls at the moment. One is just loose rock that keeps falling and I've been 'fixing' it by putting the rocks up behind a temporary fence made from old dog kennel doors (left side, approx. 7.5m). This side is at the boundary with one neighbour. Second section is a wall that has some mortar in it and old fence posts are built into it (right side, approx 10.5m). This side is at the boundary with the second neighbour. I am in discussions with fence builders at the moment about the back fence and as a result of putting the fence posts in, the rock walls will be damaged and will need to be reinstated. The left side will probably need more work as currently there is no mortar at all, and I need these rocks to stay in place. It doesn't need to be pretty and rocks cut straight like for nice front rock fences around Mt Eden, but need to be laid tidy with mortar to bind them together, so they wouldn't fall back in the future. The right side will have few places where posts will be placed that will need to be reinstated, rather than the whole section, but this depends on how much damage will happen when fence builder removes old posts and puts in the new posts. So I need someone experienced in building volcanic rock stone walls to fix up both sides as described who has done something similar in the past. I have two neighbours I need to keep happy for this project to proceed, and I need to have confidence that whatever the builder breaks on the right side will be fixed to be no worse than it is now and that rocks on the left side will stay firm for many years to come. In addition to existing rocks in these walls, I have plenty of rocks that could be used to do this job (you'll see when you come to site), so in terms of materials, you'll probably just need stuff for the mortar. You will have to co-ordinate the work with fence builder, since he can't proceed after posts are laid before the walls are fixed up.

The job was very challenging, but Paul did an awesome job, was on time and price was as quoted. While other tradies who came to quote before Paul wanted the rock removed with a digger as they didn't know how to deal with it, this was not a problem for Paul and his team. So now I have an amazing rock wall from the rock that was already there. I highly recommend Paul for all your stone masonery jobs, and I will certainly use him for few other jobs I have around my property.
