New external handrail

The existing handrail up to the front door and the front porch railing have rot so need to be repaired/replaced. I would like some options/recommendations for the quality of timber used as would like it to last. The handrail doesn’t seem to be adequately secured to the stairs so would need advice on making this safer. There is also some ugly fibre board(?) that partly encloses one side of the front porch that we would like removed and replaced with something more in keeping with the style of the house.
