We need skylights or solar tubes...help

We love our golden homes house but when we built it we didn't think through the large open plan area in our and natural lighting properly....our kitchen is dark and needs lights on al day.. and our hallway needs nightlights in the day if the room doors are shut......what to do, we have heard skylights are super expensive to retrofit into ceilings and are worried a solar tubes may be to poxi looking...
