We have had rats living in our ceiling for many years. Every time we poison or trap, they just return a few months later. We need to thoroughly rodent-proof our roof, but first we need to get in there to clean, vacuum up droppings, and replace insulation. We have raking ceilings so no crawl space, meaning the best way in is to remove sections of the roof. It is long-run corrugated iron. House is 2 storeys, but the upper roof fits completely within the lower roof, which has a low pitch (12 degrees), so it's easy to put a ladder up between levels. The roof area is approximately 160m2. The house is only 9 years old and the roof is in great condition. After completing this work, we would immediately add metal gutter mesh, and seal up anywhere we can, but would also be interested in any other rodent-proofing measures, like adding sealed flashings, etc.
