I have a 4 year old long-run steel roof that is screw-fixed, and I’m getting thermal movement noise across the whole roof. The noise happens early in the morning, on hot afternoons, and during sudden temperature changes. It sounds like the sheets are binding rather than moving freely.
I’d like someone to check for:
• Over-tightened or inconsistent screw tension
• Binding under the ridge and barge flashings
• Whether slip tape is needed under flashings
• Whether the sheet lengths require a slip joint or expansion allowance
• Any metal-on-metal contact around penetrations
I’m looking for someone experienced with thermal movement issues specifically, not just leaks.
