Under stairs storage

Recently discovered that i haven't had access to the under stairs section of my apartment for 3 years. There is a hot water cupboard adjacent to it but that has a dry wall sealing off the rest of the section. Would be interested in putting in shelves. or a hatch so that this storage space could be utilised. Ideally the shelves would be inset from the living room into under the stairs so that i could put items on them that are easily accessible next to the TV
