Removal of Kitchen Wall (1/4 wall)

We have a wall that separates our kitchen and dining space (see pictures) that we would like removed. I have been up in the roof cavity and have taken photos of the structure of the wall. It has, what looks like a strut (I'm not a builder) above the wall, but so does every other interior wall in my house. We would like to know the options around either removing it or reducing it to a singular pole/column
