Builder needed for significant renovation

Hey! I'm moving to Hawera for work and considering looking at buying a house which needs significant renovations (haven't bought one yet) and I'm looking to talk to a local builder who would be up for a decent sized renovation project. I'm looking for a builder who is up to the challenge of working with me and making good design calls that don't cost a bomb - for example, I don't want my kitchen to look like a 'bunnings kitchen' that has just been fitted to an existing area with not much thought, but instead we'd think carefully about the choices we made so that we could still purchase cost-effective cabinetry but make sure our design looked bespoke. I'm open to the idea of structural changes and extensions, but would like to have more indepth conversations about how to make this work in a way that doesn't blow the budget. I'm really looking for a builder who has good ideas around some of the finer details which separate really ordinary renovations from those which look high end. Things like lighting, windows/glass, joinery where appropriate etc. that if well planned don't add enormously to the cost, but make a huge difference visually. I have plenty of pinterest boards and a good idea of what I like and don't like - it's just a matter of teaming up with a builder and finding the right house (will almost certainly be an older pre-1950s style). Looking for a strong eye for detail, a builder with an interest in interior design, and someone who can work every trick in the box to get a bespoke look within a tight but realistic budget.
