Replace shower unit and toilet

My house has an old and poorly made inbuilt shower unit which I would like to replace with a better and more modern one. Unfortunately the space that it fits into is not one of the sizes of the standard kitset shower units, so some custom design would probably be required. I would also like to replace my toilet - both base and cistern. And I would welcome any suggestions of other improvements that could be made to my bathroom area, without requiring major structural changes.
