Kitchen skirting boards

We had our flooring in the kitchen replaced and at the time of replacing it was recommended that instead of replacing the coving we had on the existing floor that we rather flat lay it and then just get skirting boards/kickboards put in post. They said it would be fairy simple and could just be glued on with hard as nails type glue. My husband would love to attempt it but I am not sure its for him so am looking for a quote to have someone else do this. I don't think it will be a massive job I just think the measuring will be very very key :) Thanks
