New Shower Heads Required!

We moved into this place two months ago and it has two showers with fixed shower heads (not ones on a slider that you can take off to make cleaning easy etc). And they're not very good. We would like them replaced with removeable ones if possible. Don't think we'll need the mixer taps changed but may need your advice on that. Would also like advice on what brand/type of shower head would be recommended. We're on a low pressure system with a header tank.
(We would also like to discuss what would be involved in transitioning to a mains pressure system, but don't necessarily want to do that straight away, just want the shower heads to be better!).
One of the mixers is branded with "dorf". the other is "elite", if that's relevant.
And the showers are those plasticky box ones with glass doors, not tiled.
