Hot Water Cylinder Plumbing & Installation Green Bay, Waitakere

Published on 30th January 2026

About the place 1970s brick one-bedroom unit in Single level, concrete floors Existing low-pressure electric cylinder in a cupboard near the kitchen/bathroom What I want done Remove the existing low-pressure cylinder from the cupboard and make the pipework safe so I can reuse the cupboard for storage later. Supply and install a new mains-pressure electric cylinder outside, on a new concrete pad or pre-cast block against the kitchen/bathroom wall. Thinking around 180 L (for 1–2 people), Rheem or Rinnai, outdoor-rated and suitable for coastal Auckland – but I’m happy to go with your recommendation if a different size/model is better value. It’d be great if you could show the cylinder cost as a separate line item and, if it’s easy, note the price difference for 135 L / 180 L / 200 L. Plumbing side Please include: Pad/block and fixings for the cylinder All valves (tempering, relief, etc.) to current NZ code Lagged hot and cold pipes into the house Relief/TPR discharges run to a code-compliant, visible spot at or near ground level (e.g. near a gully or suitable drain), not onto the roof. Ideally under the deck into the garden if that’s compliant and practical. Connect the new cylinder to: Kitchen mixer Bathroom shower and basin Washing machine in the bathroom (I’m moving it there) Future dishwasher where the washing machine is now Please let me know if any of my existing taps/shower gear won’t like mains pressure and should be swapped or pressure-limited. Old roof overflow/vent The current low-pressure system has an overflow/vent to the roof. As part of the upgrade, please disconnect and make this vent redundant at the cylinder/pipework end, so no water can reach the roof through it. I don’t need the roof penetration removed or patched right now – I’ll sort that later with a roofer. I just want the old vent dry, out of use, and unable to leak. Electrical Please either: Include electrical (disconnect old cylinder and connect new one), or Note clearly if I need to get a sparky separately. If you have a preferred off-peak/timer setup, I’m happy to see that as a separate option in the quote. Clearances / access I’ll be building a three-sided slatted enclosure around the cylinder later. Please install it with enough space for servicing (valves, anode, etc.) and let me know the minimum clearances you want so I can design the box correctly. Quote Please send an itemised quote covering: Removal/disposal of old cylinder New cylinder (shown as its own line item) Plumbing install (valves, discharge pipework, lagging, pad/block, etc.) Decommissioning the old roof vent at the cylinder end Any electrical work (or note if excluded) Goal is simple: hot showers, no roof waterfalls, and a plumber I can call again. I can send photos/video or do calls of the cupboard, the outside wall and the roof vent if that helps you quote without a site visit. Photos: The HWC in cupboard, The door to the cupboard next to fireplace, The back wall of the cupboard that open to removing to make easier, the corner next to deck want to put new HWC.
