Fixing broken hinges on Duravit toilet seat

Sounds trivial, but a hinge broke, I ordered replacement hinges (I took the unbroken one to a plumbing shop and it was the only similar hinge) and they look right but I can't get the new one to sit right so the seat is still loose. The job is to install the new hinge and make me feel stupid for not being able to work it out for myself, thanks.
