Do we need a new flush or a new toilet?

Flush on the toilet snapped off and is broken. The piece of plastic that connects to the part that makes it flush has broken off. We need to know if this can be fixed or do we need to replace the whole toilet. Currently using a piece of wire to pull up to flush.
