Skim coat in bathroom

I’ve taken the wallpaper off in my bathroom to find it badly painted underneath. There are parts with no painting done and some areas have previous paint coats chipped badly. I need to have a skim coat to cover and seal the wall before I paint again. I would like this job done as early as possible but I understand it’s the holiday period so no rush.
