Garage Ceiling

Our garage ceiling has developed a crack along where 2 sheets of gib board meet. It appears they are butted together then plastered over but need some wood in behind them to attach too . so we need this done then plastered and ceiling repainted there maybe another way but a quote to fix would be great It occurred when there heavy machinery operating behind us for a new development I can send a photo as wouldnt download here cheers and thanks
