Rat Rid

We have a two level house with an attached garage. We seem to have a number of rats living in our garage, in our walls and in the ceiling cavity between the first and second floors. We want to get rid of these BUT we do not want to have dead rats decomposing and smelling in the walls and ceiling areas. We have been through this before and it was disgusting and it took a very long time for smell to disappear.
