Pest reduction/destruction

I want to control the level of vermin-mice and rats on my property. The pest destruction service I use currently is costing nearly a $100 per month-I am finding this too expensive. I wonder if someone could show me where to place the traps and what to use that works best. The house has had all the possible entry points sealed, but being rural there is a need to keep on top of the population! I am wondering if the current level of monitoring is too frequent and if there could be some way to set traps that address 'mating season'? The section is 1012 Thank you
