Small room 2x3 needs wallpapering - Small repair needed on wall.

Hi, I have a very small room which used to be a bathroom before I bought the house. The wall paper was coming away from the wall so I have taken it down with the intentions of painting it butI don't think the texture of the wall will work with painting as it would scratch off. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with wall papering the walls and repairing a patch that was poorly repaired previously.
