Door repair due to dog damage

Dog damage to a bedroom door, a selection of pictures below. It's hard to photograph well, but ive taken pictures of a couple of areas of the door as examples of the scratching. I suspect the whole door and frame would need to be sanded and polyeurethaned based on emails to a few handymen that advised they wouldn't be able to assist with the work - they advised a professional painter decorator was needed. If you're happy to get back to me with an idea of what's involved and worst case price that would be great. I need a conservative estimate in relation to materials, labour etc to give to the owner. Can you also let us know if the room might need to be vacant for a time while it's being repaired due to smell from paints etc.
