Hull cover/lid area repair

1996 Four Winns inboard boat. The cover/lid to the hull doesn't fit securely. The gap is too big, so the cover just falls straight through (see pics), making it impossible to walk over. I'm looking for someone to secure some wood, or Z bars or channels around the sides for the lid to rest on, if deemed appropriate. Repair timeframe... we're looking to sell the boat, so as soon as possible, would be ideal.
