fix front door lock

The lock on my front door only opened sporadically. One day it wouldn't unlock at all, wiht the door locked shut. I tried to take it apart, successfully dismantling the exterior handles and sliding the central spindle (sorry, i don't know the correct term) out. Now I am stuck as per the photos. I need the lock repaired and the door good to open again.
