Shorten hanging light fitting

This chandelier light (see photo) is hanging above our boardroom table but it hangs too low, guests hit their head on it when they stand up. We'd like it to be lifted up higher. We don't have the smaller length hanging "chain" (it's not a chain, its more like a metal cylinder) though. It may involve cutting a section out of the chain/cylinder and then rehanging? We're not sure what the solution is.
