Landscaping and Outdoor living design and construction

We are looking to turn our little outdoor section (mixture of concrete pads and grass) into a more usable outdoor living space. Its about 200-300 sqm. Section is pretty flat and surrounded by boundary fence. It's also exposed to northerlies. We would like to make it beautiful, welcoming and sheltered to cover from wind and get more privacy. Perhaps adding pergolas, adding plants, trees, fences, paves or improving lawns or adding other features. We would love to hear from someone who has similar experience and willing to be creative with their ideas.
