Tidy up dead lawn

I am about to put my house on the market and have a dead lawn. I have sprayed it with weed killer in the hope I could spend a small amount and put spray on grass down. Its ready to go but now dont think i have time to wait. So, am thinking spray on grass as a last resort or get someone to put stones down or something else. I dont have a large budget. If you email me I will email a photo. Its not a large lawn with very easy access. Ideas please. Steve
