Small courtyard landscaping

This small courtyard (approx 3.7x3m) currently has a dirt/clay surface which we'd like replaced with either pavers, a nice concrete (eg , or lawn (in that order of preference, dependent on price), along with a ~3m pathway from the deck, as well as curving the pavers/concrete/lawn around under the fold-out washing line. Firepit and planter seats to be left as is. My thinking is that the two areas between the firepit and the bank, and the planter and the bank, would be best left as some type of garden (possibly moving the grasses out from under the washing line) given the crumbliness of the bank. The bank is most crumbly in the corner - you can see a bit of wood in one of the photos at the top of the bank which is not doing a great job of holding things up, and I'd be keen for suggestions on how to improve this (without doing a full retaining job!). I'd also like some kind of edging on the gardens so they can be weed-matted and bark chipped without the bark then getting spread all over the pavers/concrete/lawn.
