Outdoor seating area

I need an outdoor concrete pad put down. It's for a new outdoor seating area it's all boxed up. I don't want the pad to crack so I don't know if anything can be done to prevent that from happening. According to my husband the pad requires just over one cubic metre of concrete. The guy who originally came to give us a quote talked about putting lines in it to make it look nice. Any landscapers with ideas would be welcomed.
