filling soil cracks and compacting soils

My lawn is on a slope toward a creek. Soils have cracked (at least 0.5 m deep) in dry summers. The soils were not original soils but were refilled during building the house. I wish someone could help with repacking the soils and filling the cracks. I heard about betonite with sand. Anyone could help? Thank you
