We want to stop water getting close to the front of our house, including both surface water and seepage. This is my best guess as to what needs doing. I want to put in a french drain across the front of our villa and concrete the side towards the house to run back to that drain. The other side will remain in laid concrete pavers. There is presently a 5 foot diameter chamber 8 ft deep with manhole which the french drain will drain into from each side of the house, ie that chamber is about in the middle. The reason for the french drain is to catch seepage as well as surface water and to keep that water from getting next to the house. A brick raised garden presently against the brick foundation wall under the verandah will need removing. I was thinking that it might be possible to use gravel on a tar based waterproof membrane instead of concrete but open to any better or simpler solution to keeping water away from the house.
