To repair the outside ceiling board near the downpipe, first remove the damaged board using a screwdriver or drill, checking for any underlying water damage or mold. Cut a replacement board to fit the space and secure it with screws or nails. Seal the edges with exterior-grade caulk to prevent water from getting behind the board. Apply an exterior primer and paint to protect the new board from the elements. Finally, inspect the repair to ensure everything is properly sealed and clean up any debris.
