Timber benchtop finishing

Hi, I recently had an ash wood timber benchtop installed by a friend. I then finished it with Danish oil, this wasn't a strong enough finish so I sanded it back and finished it with a wax. This also has marked. I now want to seal it with polyurethane. I think it needs sanding and polyurethane put on it. I can't take another session of sanding so looking for someone who knows wood that would be able to finish this job off.
