Replacement shower panel

We need a replacement plastic/glass/perspex (not sure of the existing material) panel measuring 900 x 770mm for a shower surround that was installed in the 1990s. Have been advised by shower repair companies that the material is no longer made (due to safety concerns) and offered a complete replacement shower. However, the rest of the existing shower is fine and we're looking for an easier solution. Could a different material be used and installed by a glazier?
