Push terminated gas pipe to underfloor

I have a terminated gas pipe end that is sticking out of my wooden floor and i need to push it down under the floor as I need to sand the wooden floor. The gas pipe has been recently terminated through welding and we didn't want to risk undoing the weld termination if we used tools to pushed it down. There is access to the under floor
