The preferred method would be to use a hand held chainsaw with guide ropes. Removal of the stumps and roots is not included in the work. Demolition of the existing front section of wire fence and the removal and disposal of all materials. This work will include the complete removal of the existing concrete stub wall, steel posts and steel fence rods. If a mechanical excavator is used for this, care shall be taken not to damage the asphault driveway of 1020 George Street. Removal of other vegetation to provide access for construction of the fence. It is expected that access for construction will be manly from the 1028 side of the boundary with no more than 300mm cleared on the 1020 side of the boundary. It will not be permitted to completely clear the existing surrounding vegetation clear of the boundary using an excavator. Fence Alignment At the George Street side of the fence (the gate end), the string lines will be arranged to align the centre line of the fence as close as possible with property boundary line, near the position of the existing wire rods. At the house end, the new fence should be aligned so that fence palings are flush with the corner edge of the extension of 1020 George Street. Fence Materials The fence will be made of treated pine nominally 1800 high with three horizontal rails with the smooth palings side on the 1028 side of the property boundary. Fence materials shall be as follows:- Main posts shall be from --- treated pine standard treated pine spaced no more than 2400 apart measured from the centre of the posts installed accurately in line and vertical. The posts shall be concreted securely into the ground a minimum of 600 mm below ground level, preferably around 800mm, with the concrete at least 30mm thick below and all around the post to ground level. After mixing, sufficient time shall be allowed for the concrete to set before the rails are installed. The top of the posts will be cut level with the top of the palings and at a slight angle to provide drainage. If a power mechanically driven auger is used to dig the holes for the posts, care shall be taken to avoid damage to surrounding vegetation. Rails shall be from --- treated pine cut to fit exactly between and not outside the posts. The top of the top rail should be mounted around 100mm below the top of the palings and the bottom of the bottom rail should be around 250mm above ground to clear the tree stumps and ground irregularities. The centre rail shall be mounted equidistant from the top and bottom rails. The rails shall be installed with at least 3 heavy galvanised screws or nails at each end. Palings shall be from --- treated pine installed vertically. The palings shall be installed close together and vertically and use shall be made of clamps during construction to minimise the spacing between the palings after the timber shrinks after construction. The palings shall be installed using 65mm galvanised nails or screws flush with the timber and with at least 6 nail/screws per paling. These fixings shall be evenly spaced and installed in a straight line along the fence using a string / chalk line. The palings shall be installed with a clearance of approximately 50mm above ground level to minimise exposure of the palings to water. If necessary the palings shall be cut to ensure they are evenly installed along the line of the fence. At the George Street end of the fence, the fence shall be tapered down to the height of the gate over approximately 2000mm to the next post.
