My dad is sourcing a Macrocarpa slab that we are making into a dining table but we need some steel table legs made up for it. We are hoping to get a trestle style leg like what is shown in the first picture but without the cross beam in the middle. To compensate for the lack of a cross beam I was thinking of having a larger flat plate on the top. Our friends have a very similar table leg on a commercially bought table but that is made from solid steel rather than tubing and is much thinner. I'm not sure if there is a clear advantage either way but we are open to either option. I don't have exact dimensions yet, we are still trying to work out which slab we are going to use. The table top itself will be about 1800 x 900 and with raw edges. I think these legs would need to be around 700 x 700. Not sure what the dimensions and wall thickness of the steel tubing would be. Some of the more details points would be to have the feet on a 45 degree angle. As for the spacing and number of screw holes in the top plate, I figure 4 on each corner would suffice. Unsure if countersinking them is required, nor what the best gauge is but will have to base that on the thickness of the slab. As for the finishing we would like it powder coated matt black. Hopefully this is enough to go on for now and we can discuss the details before any work begins.
