Job description

Structural Steelwork
Christchurch

I need to have somebody make the subframe to be attached to a Mitsubishi Triton ute chassis. The camper box will be a monocoque fibreglass sandwich panel construction so may not need an overengineered subframe, the floor will be 40-50mm foam with glass either side so pretty strong and stiff. I have tight payload constraints so need to have this made as light in weight as possible, I'm not sure if aluminium is suitable; many commercial campers of similar construction have alloy AL-KO chassis which look pretty light. I will attach some sketches of what I am looking to achieve and the design of the subframe. The overall dimensions of the footprint on the chassis will be 1900x2600mm, with a cab over area of --- x 1900mm. The key design features are that I wish to have include are: 1. a sunken section of the floor between the chassis rails (~900mm) and in front of the rear axle so I can house water tanks inside the camper for winter use. Depth approx 250-300mm - as much as is possible between deck and fuel tank of truck (see sketch). 2. an entry step inset into the floor. 3. A solid rear bumper incorporating the lights 4. A rear external frame to support a rear box (probably an L shaped bracket, potentially with the lower, horizontal aspect able to folded up if the box is removed or the entire frame removable). 5. possibly a self supporting subfloor frame or some reinforcing for the cab over bed area, coming up in front of the front wall and attached to the subframe (see rough sketch). I may also be able to achieve this with an interface to the cab roof so the weight is supported by the roof. Happy to try to take some photos of the underside of the truck or call in and see you with it for more details and discussion. Not sure of expected costs.
