Garden-bed re-digging & crap-removal

Kia ora. I've had new concrete paths done and been left with various garden beds that now need re-digging (the tradie won't come back to finish): all the compacted clay/scoria/crap dug out to be re-filled with 'garden mix' so I can re-plant the plants - then the crap to be taken away! I've already wasted money on gardeners having a go with just a spade who gave up, and I tried with a battery-operated auger but it kept 'kicking back'. I've ticked it as a 'small' job but not sure..... Thanks, Katie
